Okinawan
Music & Dance and Ainu-Hip-Hop at CHARANKE MATSUI – Nov 3 &
4 in Tokyo

Mina
Sakai and the Ainu Rebels will be performing at the
CHARANKE MATSUI, a festival being held on Nov. 3 & 4
in Tokyo, at the Nakano Station's North Exit Square, in front of Nakano
Sun Plaza.
All are Welcome! Admission is Free! Rain or Shine!
Congratulations to the Ainu Rebels on their one-year anniversary!! They
have a great, soulful new video
featuring their fresh Ainu-hip-hop fusion at their site. Their performance
exudes a powerful sense of liberation and release along with very good
music and dance.
The festival schedule is in Japanese only, on the website. The first day
includes a number of performances by Ainu children groups, and Mina shared
these highlights:
November 3, Saturday: 15:00~ Kamuy Nomi (Ainu Ceremony)
November 4, Sunday: 9:30~ Performances, Shops/Booths
(AINU REBELS performance time is scheduled for 16:40)
Rera
No Kai (the Ainu Association of Wind) and local Okinawan
groups – including Ryukyu-Eisa
Kai Ryukyu-Eisa Club, Gushikawa
Club, Ryukyu
Matsuri Daiko (Ryukyu Festival Drummers) have been sponsoring
the CHARANKE MATSUI, an Ainu-Okinawan festival, in Nakano for over ten
years.
I noticed the website's schedule includes many children's performances
as well as adult music and dance club performances.
This organic inclusiveness is characteristic of traditional cultures which
have always sought to bridge, not separate people between age groups.
Everyone's important, from eldest to the youngest, and all have a role
to play in co-creating culture.
