News and commentary on Cambodia (See KJ Media in Asia print version, P. 69). Fiercely independent of both the government and opposition, this newspaper is not afraid to do what most of the world's media do not: support the government when it does the right thing. The commentary section, by contributors, is the highlight with pieces such as "I saw it on CNN, so it must be true ... wrong!":

  • Do they [journalists] detest Cambodia, or its leaders? Is it the pressure of the deadline? Is this about craven editors and ignorant headline writers? Is it the tyranny of the medium, which requires the distillation of vastly complex realities down into tiny "sound bytes"? Does reducing the complexity of reality to sound bytes inevitably distort reality? Does the public demand drama and villains, which scribblers can deliver only through willful oversimplification? Has healthy skepticism and critical analysis been trampled down into terminal cynicism, where one must always adopt the most negative possible interpretation of government pronouncements? Is there some kind of ideological bias infecting some of these reporters? At one time or another, there may be a grain of truth to all of these explanations.
  • In1997, a focused search for information about human rights in Cambodia produced a list of 716 documents. This week the same search resulted in 1,695 documents, but a new search engine found 25,604 titles..."
