Back in 1988, in KJ’s early days, poet-activist Nanao Sakaki and friends organized several readings in Japan for his old friend, Beat poet Allen Ginsberg. While in Kansai, Allen was featured at a major event at Seibu Kodo, Kyoto (more video to follow), and attended a big anti-nuclear protest in Osaka, where he and Nanao delivered this slam-bam bilingual version of “Birdbrain” …tweaked for the occasion. Footage of the well-attended rally against Kansai Electric is also a record of long-standing public opposition to nuclear power in Japan.
